What is interpersonal communication?
In all sense, all communication is interpersonal, because all communication occurs betweeen people. The term interpersonal communication, however, is generally reserved for two-person, face-to-face interaction and is often used interchangeably with the term dyadic communication. Interpersonal communication has several unique characteristics. It is direct, personal, immediate, spontaneous and informal.
Group communication on the other hand is communication between a collection of individuals who, as a result of interacting with one another over time, become interdependent, developing shared patterns of behaviour and a collective identity.
Have you heard of virtual reality? Let's catch a glimpse of virtual reality in the short cartoon clip below:
Hope you enjoyed the cartoon above and have a better idea of virtual reality.
A real life application of virtual reality is the virtual classroom. YES! the virtual classroom, let's take a look at the following video clip:
Woww... cool issin't it ? Now we do not have to wake up super early to go school, to beat the morning peak period traffic for morning classes. We don't need to dress up, we can save on transportation time and money. And last but not the least, we stay in the comfort of our own room. But what impacts and consequences does a virtual classroom have on interpersonal and group communication? If the virtual classroom is to replace the traditional classroom, I forsee that alot of communication problems will arise in the workforce in future, where face-to-face interaction is mandatory. Do you think the virtual classroom is a good idea? And what consequences will it have on the interpersonal and group communication skills and development of a person? Do let me know your views... ... =)

it feels like watching a live-feed lecture while on skype with the prof.
it's like a hybird between correspondent 'Learning' (where you sign up for a course online, get notes and mail the prof questions) and the standard uni. i think it has its good points and bad but it'll depend on how the project will go..
btw i heard second-life has such class room which is fully virtual.
In my opinion, the virtual class room is a bit too ridiculous. In the sense, it already exists today and we are even experiencing it. as what huiying already mentioned, it is similar to online courses that we've been taking. Moreover, what is the fun of studying at home without friends? After all, we go to school not just for the knowledge, but for the fun of being with friends in the university. Am i right ?
Virtual world can never replace reality. We can take refuge in the virtual world, but at the end of the day, we still have to face the reality
I thinking going virtue is almost asking for danger. It cuts off connection from the world. And see how many people these days are getting addicted to virtue games.
So virtue class rooms are not really a good idea.
There are many ways of learning (homestudy, correspondence schools) and one of them is the virtual classroom. I guess it works for some people. Some people just get to absorb more with a virtual way of learning. Perhaps they get too distracted by friends. I was enrolled in a correspondence school before and I didn't last 1 month. I enjoy going to school and learning with friends.
I agree with Ming Hong that virtual world can never replace reality. When we learn with friends around we also learn about socal networking and relationships which can't be taught. experiencing it is important.
